Review: The Ultmate Anime Guide by SFX

We were at the Barnes & Noble store in Frederick which I usually try to shop once a month. They usually have one of my fav mags called NEO which is out of the UK. I found the recent one (Issue 85), but also find something else in the magazine displays. "The Ultimate Guide to Anime Special SFX Edition".

It was a sealed folder that had the following inserted:
  • The Ultimate Guide to Anime (132 pages)
  • Magnets of Naruto
  • DVD of the first 3 episodes of Sacred Blacksmith
  • Double-sided Movie Poster
I got all this for $18.99 plus tax which I thought was a good deal. I wanted to see what this "Ultimate Guide' was all about as I was wondering what it covered. I can't say this is the "Ultimate", but it had some nice articles. It had the some nice write ups of Naruto, Akira and Evangelion 2.22. They also have several reviews of anime and books. Some articles are short, while others are in great detail. It even has a sample of manga called Twelfth Night which was done by Williams Shakespeare. Not too sure about a manga done in Olde English, but the artwork is well done for the series.

I soon discovered that most of the articles were written by the same people. You had Andrew Osmond (who I swear wrote 80% of the articles) and Jonathan Clements . Never seen so much written by one person in a magazine.

If you were a Studio Ghibli fan, I would definitely recommend this. It had no less than 4 articles on the studio, the music and the shows produced I really enjoyed reading about the Cécile Corbel, who is the person that did the music for 'Arrietty'. It was interesting seeing how she got involved in the creating the music for the anime.

My wife loves fridge magnets and has them up already. I have the poster showing 'Summer Wars' (other side was 'The Girl who Leapt through Time') hanging over my computer desk.

The only issue was the DVD of Sacred Blacksmith. Since this was a UK magazine, this was actually in Region 1. After some minor tweaks to some things, I was able to watch this on my computer. This is a pretty cool anime and I may actually get the remainder of the series to watch after seeing this.

Besides that bit of a setback, I still feel this was a worth while purchase.  I am a tad upset by the title since this was not really what you would of thought of reading the cover. I have to say though, even I know it was not really going to be an 'ultimate guide'.

I did get introduced to a new anime called Redline. This may have to be added to my watch list and see if it is worth the hype.

Yep, no denying, you can find many familiar faces in L.A. anime convention: Hatsune Miku, Alice, Green Lantern, Captain Jack Sparrow and stuff. No matter the production is known or unknown, gentle or horrible, they are shinning in the convention. At least, the cosers made more efforts to be better when you saw them. So, at first, I wanna thanks for their sweats.
It’s obvious there exists two kinds of cosers: one seems to be more specialty with very close figure and skills, although the cosplay is just their hobby. The other one, of course, a common scene they’re just for fun. I admire their enthusiasm, commitment in time and energy, as well as their optimistic attitude.

Woow… I must go back to the subject, now, I’ll show the pictures. Enjoy this visual feast!

Bleach Ichigo and Uryū Ishida, Who is the Winner?

Today, I want to talk something about bleach Ichigo and Uryū Ishida. It is well known that both of them are the main characters in Bleach, and ther is no denying that each of them has their own followers. And there was a fighting between two of them in the beginning of this series as the Soul Reaper and the Quincy. And who is the winner in your heart?
If ask me, my answer is two of them have their different strong points, and it is really hard to draw the exact conclusion. In tems of Ichigo, he is actuallly an excellent and potential Solu Reaper, and he is a talent. It seems that whatever he meets and he is always able to pull through finally with his infinite potential. But he is also not a perfect man in my eyes. He is too impetuous to solve the troubles he meets sometimes on his own, which is his greatest shortcoming.
And as regards bleach Uryū Ishida, he is an excellent Quincy and the faithful and trustworthy friend. He is the top student in his class and of course has a good head. Uryū on the contrary, is very calm in face of the troubles. And he could keep a level head and deal with the troublesome situation, which is his strongest asset.
So that’s my final answer, what’s yours?

What is the Most Important Part of Final Fantasy VIII Quistis Trepe Cosplay?

As for the Final Fantasy VIII Quistis Trepe Cosplay, what is the foremost part in your mind? Is the Quistis cosplay costume or the wig or the accessories or something else?
As the instructor at Balamb Garden, Quistis has high ability and is thre youngest member of SeeD at the age of 18; as a result she attracts many of her zealots who set up the Trepe Club because of her special charm. In fact, she posseses both good personality and professional competence, meanehile, she is quite self-possessed and perfect. On my part, she is really an outstanding lady as well as a great cosplay choice for girls.
.
Generally, her accoutrement is in the form of a pair of glasses, long brown hairdo, and the suit that fltters her good body shape perfectly. And in my opinion, the most important part of the Quistis cosplay is the hair and the wig, if you just wear the Final Fantasy VIII Quistis cosplay costume in the show, and probably most of the participants can’t recognize you at the first glance. It is because that the same suit is not enough, there are so many famel characters from the anime, comic, video game and other media, and the suit is somewhat the same as the other roles, however plus the glass and the hairstyle, which is the unique figure among the tons of characters. Do you think so?
